About Us

Technology for Good

Using a combination of technology, hard work and good old fashioned Austin kindness, Humanize Austin’s mission is to leverage technology to educate the public about the causes of homelessness, while connecting the homeless with potential employers, resources and donors.

With the homelessness crisis in Austin, oftentimes those experiencing homelessness are dismissed as a nuisance. The reality is, they’re human beings just like you and I. They each have a story, they each have a set of skills, they each deserve the compassion that we would give our own family…once they were like us. We hope to be able to allow them to tell their stories through our platform and get back on their feet.

Our Approach is simple: We provide select homeless participants with custom signs (generously provided by FastSigns of Austin.). These signs include a large QR code where people can point their phone’s camera and view a video message from the Homeless participant that explains their story, how they got here, any skills they might be able to offer a potential employer and a tax-deductible way to donate towards a crowdsourced purchase of goods for our participant.

20% of all donations made to a participant will go towards a local non-profit partner of the Homeless participant’s choice. 70% will go to the homeless participant to be used towards a goal/purchase, and 10% will go to Humanize Austin to cover our costs such as credit card processing, outreach, advertising, video production, and technology enhancements. We are a 501(c)(3), non-profit, founded by The Monroe family.

Kenneth T.

Hello! My name is Kenneth T. and I'm glad to share my story...I hope it can save someone's life. I was raised in a poor household with no father and was addicted to drugs for many years. I'm proud to say I am sober and will never do drugs again in my life.

Willie F.

Hello! My name is Willie F. thanks for being open to hearing my story. I was raised in an impoverished household where my father continually gambled all of our money away. At 17 years old, I decided that the home was no longer a safe place for me, so I left my siblings & parents and traveled across the country.

Eric S

Eric has been homeless on and off for 20 years since his parents passed away. Coming from a loving family, Eric’s life was “perfect” until his parents passed and he turned to marijuana and cocaine as a way to cope with his loss. He’s been clean since November 18, 2020 and says that there IS NO WAY he is turning back to that life again.

Humanize Austin is an exceptional example of how we can leverage technology to increase our compassion for our less fortunate brothers and sisters. By lifting them up, we can all stand a little bit taller.

Andrew Dudley, Board Member

Humanize Austin has figured out an intelligent way to use technology to connect with humans who have fallen on unfortunate times. This is a game changer that creates opportunities for the homeless, employers, and people that want to help.
